Team Horner and SGM renovate pool for Special Needs Persons at the Marian Center in Miami
At the request of Bill Kent (Team Horner), a member of the Board of Trustees at the Marian Center, Philip Greggs (Southern Grouts and Mortars) organized the gift of a brand new Diamond Brite pool finish for special needs children and adults at the Marian Center located in Miami Gardens, FL. The Mission of the Marian Center is to educate, train and serve people with developmental disabilities and assist them in wholeness, pursuant to the dictates of the Gospel and of the Catholic Church's call to love, charity and justice. Bill Kent said, “Phil Greggs leadership made this project happen at no cost to the Marian Center”. The pool finish had been in a state of serious disrepair for several years. Phil organized several volunteer contractors to work with him to accomplish this major renovation.
The Marian Center is daytime home for about 125 children and adults for the past 50 years. Many are afflicted with a genetic disorder called Down Syndrome. The newly renovated pool is now being used daily for exercise, swimming, and fun activities by adults with intellectual disabilities. Some of them are people with Down Syndrome. The Marian Center is operated by the Sisters of St. Joseph B. Cottolengo, an Italy-based order with a mission of helping people in need.
